P. fluorescens in CF

Question

Do you have any experience with Pseudomonas fluorescens? We have a 4 year old patient with CF who has grown it. We are going to re-culture but I am not really sure what to do with it. Not much in the literature and it is not causing a pulmonary exacerbation. If it was P. aeruginosa we would attempt eradication as per ELITE and EPIC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

I have seen the new info on P. aeruginosa eradication advisability but don’t think one should generalize. P. aeruginosa can be mistaken for P. fluorescens so I would certainly re-culture. P. fluorescens is generally much less virulent than P. aeruginosa so I would presume that it is not associated with bad outcomes and should not be a target for eradication.
